4,000 Mauritians to Get Tech Skills Boost with Huawei
The ICT training program of Huawei, a leading global technology company, is continuing to thrive in Mauritius. The DigiTalent 3.0 program has set a new target of training 4,000 Mauritian students over the next four years, it was announced on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at a ceremony held at the Suffren Hotel in Port-Louis.
The event was attended by President Pradeep Roopun, Minister of Information Technology, Communication, and Innovation Deepak Balgobin, and Chinese Ambassador to Mauritius Zhu Liying.
The 4,000 Mauritian trainees will be trained through Huawei’s ICT Academy, the Seeds for the Future program, training for government officials, entrepreneurship courses, and skill development programs for the general public.
The program is primarily targeting students, as it not only contributes to the development of expertise in the country but also allowing Huawei to detect new talents.
According to Zheng Kui, CEO of Huawei Mauritius, the company has collaborated with over 2,600 universities worldwide, including seven in Mauritius, to train 200,000 students.
Additionally, 35 instructors and over 350 students have benefited from Huawei training in Mauritius. Four Mauritian young professionals have recently participated in the LEAP Summit of Huawei in China after winning the local edition of the Seeds For The Future competition.
The government’s commitment to improving digital infrastructure is crucial to attracting investments and creating an environment conducive to TIC-focused businesses, said President Roopun.
“I am pleased to see global companies like Huawei supporting this national talent creation initiative by training our workforce and increasing their employability.”
Mauritius has always been a regional pioneer in innovation.
The country’s strategic investments in TIC infrastructure and its commitment to fostering a knowledge-based economy have laid solid foundations for its digital future.
Continuous training and skill enhancement are essential.
The Huawei talent ecosystem is a brilliant example of how we can work together to build a thriving pool of TIC talents in our country,” added Minister Balgobin.
The DigiTalent 3.0 program is aiming to equip Mauritians with the skills needed to succeed in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
