Surprise & Curiosity as a Boeing 737-800 Lands in Agalega
Yesterday, July 9, the arrival of a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, bearing the registration number IN 331, sent shockwaves across the Agalega archipelago. The aircraft’s imposing presence left many residents of the Ile du Nord, particularly those from the villages of La Fourche and Village 25, in awe.
So much so that they left their daily activities to get a closer look at the plane.Eyewitnesses reported that there were approximately 40 people on board, comprising cabin crew members and technicians from the aircraft.
The Indian Navy team, which arrived at the island at around 1:30 pm, spent about two hours on the island before departing for Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Port Louis at around 3:30 pm.
During their brief stay, the passengers remained in the airport hangar. Locals who witnessed the event told Le Mauricien that they were initially impressed by the size of the aircraft.
“The plane that came for the airstrip inauguration is tiny compared to what we saw today…,” they said.
As the initial shock wore off, one question echoed across the island: “What is this plane doing here? Who are these people coming to our island?”
Authorities directly involved in managing Agalega revealed that the Indian Navy team had come to test the airstrip.
The sudden appearance of this large aircraft has left many questions unanswered, sparking curiosity among Agaleans.
The reasons behind this visit remain unclear, fueling speculation and debate among locals. As the island’s residents continue to ponder the purpose of this visit, one thing is certain: yesterday’s surprise arrival of the Boeing 737-800 has left an indelible mark on their collective consciousness.
