QUAKE ALERT! 6.5 Magnitude Shakes, But All Clear
A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck the southwestern region of Mauritius early on Wednesday morning, July 10, at around 8:55am, according to a statement released by the National Disaster Risk and Management Centre.
The earthquake’s epicenter was approximately 4,500 kilometers southwest of the island, off the coast of Africa.
Although there is no tsunami warning issued by the meteorological station in Vacoas, it is advising the public to exercise caution and avoid venturing into lagoons and along beaches in the southern and western regions.
The National Disaster Risk and Management Centre is closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of citizens.
