A heated exchange erupted in the Parliament on Tuesday, July 9, between the Speaker and Labour MP Ehsan Juman.

The incident occurred when Juman attempted to ask an additional question to the Minister of Social Security, Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo, regarding the National Pensions Fund and outstanding interests.

However, the Minister insisted that the question was far removed from the original topic, which was about investments.

The Speaker took umbrage with Juman’s request, telling him that it was not a shop and that this was the Parliament.

Undeterred, Juman continued to speak over the Speaker, with his microphone cut off.

The Speaker then ordered his removal from the chamber and “named” him.

This led to another appeal by Sooroojdev Phookeer, the Serjeant-at-arms, for police assistance to “collect this man.”

But Juman refused to back down. As tensions escalated, the Speaker was forced to suspend the session.

The incident has left many wondering what triggered such a fiery exchange between two prominent figures in the Parliament.

The incident has also raised questions about whether Juman’s removal from the chamber was justified.

As the dust settles, one thing is clear: this is not the first time that tensions have run high in Parliament.

In recent months, there have been several instances of heated exchanges between politicians.
