Ganoo Spills the Beans: Talks with PMSD On

Rumors of a rift within the governing alliance have been circulating, with speculation suggesting that the Mauritian Socialist Militant (MSM) and the Mauritian Social-Democratic Party (PMSD) may be negotiating an alliance ahead of the general elections.

However, Transport Minister Alan Ganoo, a key leader of the Linite Militan party, has denied any such deal, stating that the negotiations are still ongoing.

In an interview with Radio Plus on July 8, 2024, Ganoo said that they are not yet aware of the progress made in talks with the MSM.

He emphasized that it is up to the leader of the alliance to inform them of any developments. “We haven’t made any objections so far,” he added.

“We haven’t discussed any potential alliance with the PMSD at this level. An alliance is based on a program first, and then we’ll see about seats and other issues.”

Ganoo’s statement appeared to be aimed at dispelling rumors that partners of Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, including Ivan Collendavelloo, Steven Obeegadoo, and himself, are opposed to the idea of Xavier-Luc Duval and the PMSD joining the existing coalition.

The alleged disagreement is said to center around the allocation of electoral tickets in case of an alliance.

When asked if an alliance with the PMSD would result in fewer tickets for other MSM partners, Ganoo replied that he couldn’t comment on it yet.

“For now, I can’t say if it’s true because if the PMSD joins, it would be at the expense of Linite Militan in terms of seats. Let’s wait and see how things evolve.”

Ganoo also dismissed claims that there are internal problems within his party. “It’s absolutely false that there are problems within our ranks,” he said.

“Our political opponents have realized that our activities on the ground have been successful. Our opponents are destabilized and traumatized.”
