Arvin Boolell to Probe Privy Council's Ruling Against Environment Ministry

The National Assembly will reconvene today, July 9, with the Private Notice Question (PNQ) of the opposition leader, Arvin Boolell, set to focus on the judgment delivered by the Privy Council on July 4 against the Ministry of Environment.

The Privy Council has maintained a broader interpretation given by the Supreme Court of Mauritius regarding the locus standi of the non-governmental organization (NGO) Eco-Sud to pursue its case.

Eco-Sud is contesting a major project by Pointe d’Esny Lakeside Company Limited at Pointe-d’Esny, which includes the construction of 172 villas, 278 apartments, 100 duplex units, commercial facilities, and an apartment hotel complex, among others.

The project, valued at Rs 11 billion, will be built on a 70.9-hectare land plot.

In his PNQ, Boolell will ask Minister Kavy Ramano what measures his ministry would propose to take in light of this judgment.

PNQ can be followed live on Radio Plus and on Defi Media Facebook page and YouTube channel (TéléPlus) starting at 11:20 am, July 9.
