90-Day Visa-Free Travel: Mauritius & Benin Unite
In a significant development, the Mauritian government has given its approval for the signing of an agreement with Benin to exempt visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, official, service, and ordinary passports.
This move will allow citizens of both countries to enter, exit, transit, and stay on the territory of the other country without a visa for a period not exceeding 90 days within a period of 180 days from the date of their first entry.
Benin, a country located in West Africa covering an area of 114,763 square kilometers, stretches 700 kilometers from the Niger River in the north to the Atlantic coast in the south.
With a population of approximately 13.3 million inhabitants in 2021, Benin is a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and shares borders with Togo to the west, Nigeria to the east, Niger to the northeast, and Burkina Faso to the northwest.
Under the new agreement, passport holders from both countries will be able to benefit from simplified travel procedures, streamlining their movements and facilitating business, tourism, and cultural exchanges between the two nations.
This move is expected to enhance diplomatic ties and strengthen bilateral relations between Mauritius and Benin.
The agreement is seen as a significant step forward in promoting people-to-people diplomacy and economic cooperation between the two countries.
It will also contribute to increasing mobility and facilitating the exchange of goods and services between Mauritius and Benin.
