Wage Adjustment Affects 119,000 Employees
In a response to a question posed by MP Reza Uteem during the reserved questions session in Parliament on Tuesday, July 2nd, Labour Minister Soodesh Callichurn revealed that approximately 119,000 employees out of 366,000 are impacted by the salary adjustment exercise. The affected employees earn around Rs 30,000 per month.
The minister emphasized that his ministry has reviewed the report submitted by the consultant who conducted the exercise and is conducting an investigation in 22 sectors of employment.
Additionally, according to Business Mauritius, about 48% of employers have already implemented salary adjustments.
Callichurn further stated that his ministry is examining the implementation procedure in consultation with other institutions to put into effect the findings of the consultant’s report on this matter.
