53-Year-Old Woman Raped on Quiet Beach

On the evening of Monday, June 17, 2024, a 53-year-old woman from a coastal village in the north experienced a harrowing ordeal that would leave her shaken and traumatized. The woman was raped on the public beach at Grande-Pointe-aux-Piments, and her attacker was arrested on Wednesday and later brought to justice.

The suspect, a 24-year-old man, denied any involvement in the crime. At 11:45 pm, the Trou-aux-Biches police post received an emergency call reporting a woman in distress on the Grande-Pointe-aux-Piments beach.

Upon arrival, officers took the woman into custody and she reported that she had been raped. In her statement, she recounted that she was sitting alone on the beach when a local resident from Pointe-aux-Piments approached her, immobilized her, and then dragged her to a secluded area.

He placed his hand over her mouth before committing the rape. After completing his act, he fled the scene.

The victim, who was hospitalized due to her trauma, was unable to provide detailed information at the time of her initial report.

The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Trou-aux-Biches took over the investigation and managed to track down the suspected rapist.

On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, detectives conducted a raid at Grande-Pointe-aux-Piments and apprehended suspected rapist. He was positively identified by the victim and subsequently interrogated. However, he denied any involvement in the crime.

Suspect appeared before the Rivière-du-Rempart court and was provisionally charged with rape. He remained in police custody as investigators continue their inquiry.

The CID has expressed a desire to gather more information regarding inconsistencies they have identified in the survivor’s account.

They are awaiting an improvement in her health and her discharge from hospital to obtain further details about the circumstances surrounding the rape.
