No one is immune to the effects of climate change, not even our beloved island paradise. A stroll along some of our beaches revealing the devastating impact of erosion, threatening to swallow them whole. The relentless pounding of waves and increasingly frequent and intense storms has left a trail of destruction in its wake.

The northern shores of the island are particularly affected. From Balaclava to Trou-aux-Biches, a drive along the coastal road revealed the extent of the damage caused by erosion.

The situation is even more alarming in Mon-Choisy, where large sections of beach have been washed away, leaving behind cavities and holes.

Despite efforts to restore the area, Mother Nature is not yielding.

The same desolate landscape continues to unfold as we head towards Cap-Malheureux, Anse-la-Raie, Poste-Lafayette, and Bras-d’Eau. The coastlines are disfigured by climate change.

The rising sea level has forced the construction of stone and concrete infrastructure along the Quatre-Sœurs-Anse-Jonchée coastal road.

Health trails have been built to provide recreational areas and promenades for residents, but these initiatives cannot mask the loss of our natural heritage.

Idyllic spots are slowly losing their charm. The threat is real, and it is imperative that we take action to preserve what remains of our beaches.

The fight against climate change and its destructive effects must become a top priority.

The erosion of our beaches is a stark reminder of the urgent need to address this global issue. As we strive to protect our island’s natural beauty, we must also recognize the devastating impact climate change has on our environment and our way of life.

It is time for us to join forces and take decisive action to mitigate the effects of climate change and preserve our island’s splendor for future generations.
