Mauritius Makes it to Top 7 as Retirement Paradise

In its 11th edition, the “Palmarès 2024 des Paradis de retraite à l’étranger” (Retirement Paradise Index) has ranked Mauritius 7th among the most popular destinations for French retirees looking to settle abroad.

This annual index, which has been established for over a decade, evaluates the top destinations for French retirees based on a comprehensive analysis of 12 key criteria.

These criteria include the cost of living, property value, climate, medical care, gastronomy, natural environment, cultural heritage, sports and leisure activities, security, integration, accessibility, and infrastructure.

The index highlights the advantages of Mauritius as a retirement destination, describing it as a “petit paradis exotique” (small exotic paradise) that offers stability, a welcoming population, pleasant climate, and stunning beaches.

However, it also notes that Mauritius is not the most affordable option and that retirees must be prepared to accept the constraints of being far from France.

The top 10 destinations in the index are:

  1. Portugal
  2. Spain
  3. Greece
  4. Thailand
  5. Morocco
  6. Tunisia
  7. Mauritius
  8. Senegal
  9. Bali
  10. Dominican Republic

The index is based on a rigorous analysis of data from various sources, including government reports, real estate market trends, and feedback from French retirees who have already made the move to these destinations.

With its favorable climate and stunning beaches, it is no wonder that it has become a popular destination for those seeking a new life abroad.
