Aggressive Thugs in Orange T-Shirts Disrupt Election Campaign
The election campaign is shaping up to be “dangerous,” according to Dev Sunnasy. His party, Linon Pep Morisien, the Ralliement Citoyen pour la Patrie, the Rassemblement Mauricien and the Verts Fraternels, who have all joined forces under Linion Moris, had started a tour of the island and had visited Goodlands, Triolet, Terre-Rouge, Pointe-aux-Sables and Quatre-Bornes.
“We had encountered no problems. On the contrary, the public was very receptive,” Dev Sunnasy explains.
However, during their visit to Rivière-du-Rempart, “specifically at the market, which cost half a billion, we were verbally attacked by ‘hired thugs’ wearing orange t-shirts.
” There were about 25 Linion Moris members sharing flyers and their electoral program with Padma Utchanah’s photo on the cover, who will be running as a candidate in district number 7.
“We had known since the day before that a close associate of Sandhya Boygah, who would be a candidate for the MSM in the same district, would be present, accompanied by troublemakers. Indeed, these individuals insulted and provoked us, demanding that we leave.”
Dev Sunnasy explains that market vendors and customers then confronted the MSM agents for their behavior. Eventually, the police intervened and asked them to leave.
According to him, it was the impactful content of the flyers that must have prompted this intimidation attempt by the MSM agents.
Rama Valayden and Nando Bodha, among others, were also present and could be seen engaging in deep conversations with members of the public.
This may have also upset the MSM agents, who kept chanting, “Long live Pravind. Pravind is our ‘Mari’…”
