ICAC Boss Appointed as Head of Financial Crimes Commission

The Prime Minister’s Office has selected Navin Beekarry from the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) to lead the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC), initiating formal procedures for the transition this week.

In addition, Narainkrishna Peerun and Karrim Namdarkhan are reportedly also moving from the ICAC board to FCC commissioners.

Beekarry, said to be in the race since the draft FCC Act was promulgated last year, has been the ICAC head since 2016.

Despite his alleged close ties to the Jugnauth family, Beekarry faces criticism for his ICAC leadership, with the Leader of the Opposition planning to object to his fresh appointment.

The PMO also extended Carine Charlette-Katinic’s tenure at the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) amidst recent operational challenges.
