Air Mauritius Faces Turmoil: CEO, CFO Amid Allegations

Air Mauritius, the national airline, is facing a major upheaval as its CEO, Krešimir Kučko, left, and CFO, Jean Laval Ah Chip, right, were abruptly suspended amid allegations of misconduct and governance issues.

This unexpected move has reportedly sent shockwaves through the company, with further high-ranking executives now under scrutiny. The allegations, originating from within Air Mauritius, have prompted an investigation by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Sources close to Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth stress the need for thorough examination of these claims.

It is believed that the suspensions were triggered by questionable dealings with individuals linked to companies in regular partnership with Air Mauritius.

Additionally, decisions made by Kučko and Ah Chip have reportedly led to actual financial losses or posed significant risks to the company’s financial stability.

In response, the board of directors announced the establishment of an independent committee to investigate the allegations and submit their findings promptly.

While the return of Kučko to Air Mauritius seems unlikely, the fate of Jean Laval Ah Chip, who has served in various capacities for over a decade, remains uncertain.

Temporary appointments have been made to fill the leadership vacuum, with Captain Alain Leung Hing Wah taking on the role of Accountable Manager and Laurent Recoura, Chief Commercial Officer since August 2022, stepping in as Acting Officer in Charge.

Meanwhile, Shivaji Gunnesh, Senior Manager of Financial Accounting, will assume the responsibilities of Acting CFO.

This development marks a pivotal moment for Air Mauritius, with the company’s future leadership and stability hanging in the balance.
