Demands for Justice Echo as Sir Gaëtan Vigil Calls for Transparency in Tragedy Investigation!

A candlelight vigil was held in memory of the four crew members of the Sir Gaëtan tugboat, who tragically perished in a shipwreck off Poudre d’Or three years ago. The event was organised by Alain Malherbe, Julia Lemaire, and Labour MPs Fabrice David and Arvin Boolell.

Boolell raised concerns about the lack of transparency and closure for the victims’ families and called for the release of the Angoh Court of Investigation report to ascertain the truth about the Sir Gaëtan tragedy. He criticised the government for its indifference and insensitivity to the victims’ plight.

Protesters held placards demanding justice for the deceased crew members and questioned the circumstances of the incident. The shipwreck occurred when the Sir Gaëtan collided with the barge L’Ami Constant while returning from the grounding site of the MV Wakashio, resulting in a breach in the tugboat’s hull.

Participants expressed frustration that despite the investigation court’s deliberations, no action had been taken to address the concerns of the bereaved families, and they urged for transparency in releasing the Angoh report.
