Île aux Cerfs: Anger Brews Over Probable Paid Access

Prem Beerbul, the president of the Eastern Boaters Federation, has expressed concerns over the future of popular island, Île aux Cerfs.

Reports indicate that the island’s access, which was previously free, could become a paid service due to an upcoming “eco-friendly” project initiated by hotel group Sunlife.

Beerbul argued on the potential negative impact on local operators, boaters, and residents.

He also highlighted restrictions placed on the island’s movement and expressed worries about the potential privatisation of the island.

Around 350 boaters and various businesses depend on the island’s accessibility for their livelihoods.

Sunlife has described the project as an effort to regenerate the island’s natural space, emphasising environmental preservation.
