Chinese firm secures Rs6 billion contract in Mauritius

China CAMC Engineering (CAMCE), a Chinese contractor, has been awarded a lucrative contract valued at USD132 million (approximately Rs6 billion) for the design, engineering, procurement, and construction services of a public transportation hub in Mauritius’ capital city, Port Louis.

The project Port-Louis Immigration Square Urban Terminal will reportedly include the construction of a 96,000-square-meter bus terminal and supporting facilities.

CAMCE announced the agreement on July 15, revealing its partnership with developer Yihai International Investment Development.

In addition to the initial construction, CAMCE will also provide debugging and maintenance services for the transportation hub. The project is expected to be completed within a three-year timeframe.

The contract’s value represents 9.7% of CAMCE’s operating revenue from the previous year, reflecting the significance of this undertaking for the company, Yicai Media reported.

CAMCE expressed confidence in the project’s profitability, attributing it to the prime location of the hub and the favorable tax incentives and land use rights provided by the Mauritius government.

This venture marks CAMCE’s inaugural project in Mauritius and is expected to have a positive impact on the company’s future business endeavors.

This is the company’s first project in Mauritius.
