Mauritius trade deficit narrows to Rs14.7 million in March 2023

According to the latest data released by Statistics Mauritius, the Visible Trade balance in March 2023 recorded a deficit of Rs 14.7 million.
This figure represents a 0.4% increase compared to the previous month, but a 10.1% decrease compared to the same period in 2022.
The report reveals that total imports in March 2023 saw a 3.2% increase compared to February 2023, yet a 6.1% decrease compared to March 2022.
On the other hand, total exports experienced an 8.0% growth compared to February 2023, and a 1.1% increase compared to March 2022.
In terms of major export destinations for Mauritius in March 2023, South Africa topped the list with a share of 10.5%, followed by France at 9.5%, the United Kingdom at 8.6%, Italy at 7.2%, the Netherlands at 6.9%, and the United States at 6.8%.
These countries accounted for a significant portion of Mauritius’ exports.
On the import side, the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) held the largest share at 23.3%, followed by China at 11.7%, India at 9.0%, South Africa at 7.3%, France at 6.0%, and Japan at 3.0%.
