Mauritius should brace for extreme weather events, Met Office warns

Extreme weather events are expected to hit Mauritius this winter, according to a report by the Mauritius Meteorological Services (MMS).

The report predicts a range of extreme weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible cyclones.

The MMS has warned that these weather events could have serious consequences, such as flooding and landslides, and has urged the public to take precautions and be prepared.

The report also highlights the potential impact of these extreme weather events on agriculture, fisheries, and other sectors of the economy.

Meanwhile, Mauritius is expected to experience a rainy week ahead, as clouds from the east sector have begun to influence local weather. The region is also under the influence of a tropical storm named Fabien which was born end of last week in the Indian Ocean.

According to the Met Office, Fabien has intensified into a Tropical Cyclone. It is evolving far to the North-East of the Mascarene islands and is not expected to directly impact weather over the Mascarene islands for the next 5 days.

In theory, Mauritius has stepped into winter on 15 May – no cyclones were expected to occur during this season.
