Three new judges appointed to Mauritius Supreme Court

Three new judges have been appointed to Mauritius’ Supreme Court. They are Sulakshna Beekarry-Sunassee, currently Assistant Solicitor-General, Pravin Harrah, currently Acting President of the Industrial Court, and Kesnaytee Bissoonauth, who is Acting Master and Registrar (MR) of the Supreme Court.

Their appointments took effect this Wednesday, 03 May, 2023, after being sworn in at the State House, in Réduit.

Before being Assistant Solicitor-General, Me Sulakshna Beekarry-Sunassee was Acting Assistant Parliamentary Counsel at the Attorney General’s office. She was also vice-president of the Assessment Review Committee. In August 2022, she was appointed as President of the Equal Opportunities Tribunal (EOT).

Pravin Harrah had a rich career at the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), before joining the judiciary. He was consecutively appointed President of the Intermediate Civil Court, President of the Children’s Court, before being appointed Acting President of the Industrial Court.

Kesnaytee Bissoonauth was a magistrate at the Intermediate Criminal and Civil Court. She was also Assistant Solicitor General.

Other appointments are to be expected in the judiciary.
