French renewable power producer Qair has sealed power off-take deals with the Central Electricity Board (CEB) for four hybrid solar and battery storage projects in Mauritius that will add 60 MW of capacity to the local electricity grid.

According to specialist publication, Renewables Now, the contracted projects represent a combined investment of more than Rs7 billion (USD 151.1million), being one of the largest ones in the Indian Ocean area.

The schemes are planned to enter construction this year and be completed in 2024.

Two of the Stor’Sun photovoltaic (PV) plants, named SS1 and SS2, will be installed in the village of Trou d’Eau Douce, on the eastern side of the island, Renewables Now reported.

SS3 and SS4 will be located in the Balaclava and Petite-Riviere villages, respectively.

“All of them will be coupled with large-scale battery storage facilities to stabilise the grid,” it said.

Qair presently has two solar parks (Parcs Anahita and Queen Victoria) totalling 25.3 MW and a wind farm of 9.3 MW in Mauritius. The French company has been active in the country through its local arm since 2008.
