Mauritius launches appeal for earthquake aid operations in Türkiye, Syria

Mauritius has appealed to the population, the private sector and the business community to financially contribute to provide assistance and relief to the victims of the Türkiye -Syria earthquake.

At least 43,885 people have reportedly died across Turkey and neighbouring Syria following the powerful 7.8 magnitude quake, leaving millions hospitalised persons and homeless survivors by one of the region’s worst natural disasters.

A fundraising event, a Teledon, will be held at the Municipal Council of Port-Louis on 21 February 2023 as from 8am to 8pm,  and concurrently in other public places including shopping malls, District Councils and Municipal Councils.

Contributions can be made on the following Bank Accounts dedicated for ‘Donations for Türkiye and Syria’, that are already operational, namely –

  • SBM:  50300001045594
  • MCB : 000450273601
  • MauBank: 102000046610

However, the public may also make contributions straightaway by sending “Teledon” by SMS on 8666 (applicable for MyT, Emtel, Chile -Rs 10 per sms).

Ballot boxes placed around the country on Teledon day (the list will be communicated in the coming days). Only monetary donations will be accepted, to ensure that aid can be sent to Turkey and Syria as soon as possible.
