Attorney General Maneesh Gobin had reportedly had a tough time at a press conference on Wednesday after the publication of a photo of PM Pravind Jugnauth in the company of Rikesh Sumboo, the man who was allegedly acting as a nominee for alleged drug trafficker Jean Hubert Celerine alias Franklin.

Both men were arrested by the ICAC for alleged money laundering on the eve, Tuesday 7 February.

Confirming ongoing cooperation between Mauritius and France on this hot topic since mid-January, he refused to comment the ruling of Reunion Island court sentencing Franklin to seven-year jail term  for complicity in drug trafficking.

Maneesh Gobin was reportedly bombarded with questions to which he was unable to respond, claiming that he cannot reveal anything without the agreement of France.

The Attorney General, said to be embarrassed by the questions, cut short the press conference and rushed into his office, locking the door behind him.

Over the past few days, the government is increasingly been accused of protecting the drug trafficker. According to reports, the drug trafficker allegedly funded the election campaign and is close to several MPs of the MSM ruling party.
