Mauritius to attempt Guinness World Record ahead of Independence Day celebrations

Rehearsals are currently underway In Mauritius to attempt an ambitious Guinness World Record on 24 January 2023 to mark the island’s 55th anniversary of Independence.

The attempted record is that of the World’s Largest Human Image of a Waving National Flag.

Some 7 800 Mauritians, mostly students, will participate in the endeavour that will be held at Anjalay Stadium in Mapou.

The largest human image of a waving national flag is 5,885 and was achieved by Chandigarh University and NID Foundation (both India) in Chandigarh, India on 13 August 2022. The participants were college students who formed India’s national flag.

Officials from the various ministries, the Special Mobile Force and the Mauritius Police Force will also be part of the event.
