Mauritius Shipping boss fired over 'serious disagreement' with Minister

The Board of the Mauritius Shipping Corporation Limited has, on 30 December 2022, terminated the contract of Krishnajee Lallsingh as Managing Director.

According to reports, the move was pushed for by the Minister of Fisheries and Shipping, Sudheer Maudhoo, over “serious disagreements” between the two.

Lallsingh and the Mauritius Shipping Corporation Limited were apparently blamed for choosing a vessel from Shiny Shipping and Trading Ltd to serve Rodrigues.

The company was selected despite the fact that the ministry “felt” there were problems with the call for interest.

But the MSCL responded that the selection had been conducted under the guidance of the State Law Office.

Insiders were cited as saying that the reason behind Lallsingh’s lay-off was his insistence to preserve MSCL from the minister’s alleged interference.

Reacting on the decision, Lallsingh was cited as telling Defi Media that he is a professional in the maritime sector and he respects the committee’s decision.
