Mauritius Telecom vs Huawei: Dispute resumes, and it's going to hurt

Mauritius Telecom reportedly intends to open up to companies other than Huawei. According to reports, pressure is growing internally not to renew some of the contracts with the Chinese giant.

“One of the agreements relate to the network optimisation services, which was previously managed internally, by MT technicians. After 2015, the service was conferred to Huawei. Our experts can handle this aspect and it will end up being less costly for the company,” an insider was cited as telling Defi Media.

Procedures are also reportedly on to ensure that the purchase of modems be conferred to a supplier other than Huawei. It seems that MT is also considering the option to ‘slow down’ the sale of Huawei phones and smart watches.

The tension between the two entities last year culminated with the Chinese Ambassador Zhu Liying having to intervene, and describing serious allegations against Huawei as “unfounded”.
