Mauritius Labour Party leader Dr Navin Ramgoolam met with members of leftist party Rezistans ek Alternativ on Tuesday. Both parties agreed that the country’s priority is to “get rid of the MSM Government and Pravind Jugnauth as soon as possible so that the country can breathe again.”

Speaking after the meeting, Dr Ramgoolam said “change in the system is becoming urgent. Nothing will change if the same system is in place”.

Rezistans ek Alternativ’s spokesperson Ashok Subron said he advocates a united front of political parties of the parliamentary and extra-parliamentary opposition, as well as trade unions and other associations.

Proposals discussed include that of a transitional government that acts as a “caretaker government”.

Rezistans ek Alternativ intends to hold a constitutional conference early next year.
