Over a thousand Facebook accounts in Mauritius hacked in less than two years

From 1 January 2020 to 13 October this year, 1,266 cases of Facebook accounts hacking and identity theft were reported to Mauritius’ Cybercrime Online Reporting System (MAUCORS).

MAUCORS is a platform managed by the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-MU) of the Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation.

MAUCORS was set up to allow users to report incidents. The platform is also connected to the Police Cybercrime Unit, the Data Protection Office and the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA).

Once a complaint is registered, the user receives an email with the various steps to follow to report the case to Facebook.

If the case is still not resolved, CERT-MU intervenes by contacting Facebook.
