Lawyer Sanjeev Teeluckdharry’s in-laws, particularly his mother-in-law, Hemlata Sher-Gill Gaya, and brother-in-law, Vighnesh Gaya, are suing Police’s Special Striking Team, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ashik Jagai for Rs50 million.

The mother-in-law of Mr Teekuckdharry claims to be a partially paralysed person and is bedridden most of the time and her 27-year-old son is studying.

She was alone at home when heavily-armed members of the Striking Team raided her house – allegedly looking for drugs and stolen goods. Nothing incriminating was found.

The Gaya’s claim to have been traumatised by the raid and feel ASP Jagai abused his power and authority.

Earlier, Mr Teeluckdharry has denounced the police action, alleging that the police action was the result of his anti-government stance. He also been the lawyer of political activist Bruneau Laurette, recently arrested and slapped with heavy drug charges.
