Mauritius pays new parents Rs2,000 as Baby Bonus

A Baby Bonus of Rs1,000 (USD44.80) will be paid to all new parents in Mauritius as from 01 July 2022 to accompany growing families.

The bonus, which was announced in the 2022/2023 Budget, will come as an addition to the already prevailing voucher of Rs 200 (USD4.48) under the Savings Culture Scheme.

The vouchers will be issued to parents of babies born during period 01 July 2022 to 04 November 2022 by the Central Civil Status Office.

The following Alphabetical Order will apply for the collection of the Baby Bonus Scheme Voucher:

• A –F : Monday and Thursday
• G –N : Tuesday and Friday
• O –Z : Wednesday

Upon  receipt  of  the  vouchers,  parents  will  have  to  call  at  the State-owned  MauBank  to  open  an account  in  the  name  of  the  newborn.

They will then be required to  credit the  Savings  Culture Scheme Voucher  and  the  Baby  Bonus  Scheme  Voucher in  that  account. 

The Baby Bonus is payable to parents of new born where at least one of the parents is a Mauritian citizen.
