Handcuffed teenager thrown on ground by cop, sprayed with tear gas

A new video of alleged police brutality has become the talk of the town: it shows a 17-year-old suspect with handcuffed hands and feet being sprayed with tear gas by a police officer in Mauritius.
According to reports, the event took place at Rose-Hill Police Station. The footage reportedly showed three police officers attempting to placate the suspect, throwing him on the ground several times and one of them spraying him with tear gas.
Onlookers are heard protesting against the manoeuvre: “Hey, don’t do this to him. He is handcuffed, don’t spray it on his face.”
“The video clearly shows that the concept of proportionality of force required to arrest someone is not being respected. The police officer has become the aggressor. The use of tear gas on a person already under control is an inappropriate use of force and torture,” reacted social activist Bruneau Laurette.
However, according to media reports, the suspect allegedly assaulted the police officer who was arresting him for bad conduct in public. Two other police officers had been injured during the arrest.
