Delegation from Iraq in Mauritius to study electoral best practices, 'field dynamics'

A delegation from Iraq will be in Mauritius in November to study the island’s electoral “best practices” and “field dynamics” from Mauritius.

The visit will comprise members of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) of Iraq. The delegation is expected in Mauritius from 20 to 25 November 2022.

According to Cabinet Papers, the study visit follows a request from the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

The latter was established by UN Security Council Resolution 1500. It is mandated to advise, support and assist the Government of Iraq and the IHEC with efforts to plan and execute genuinely free and fair Iraqi-led, Iraqi-owned elections.

Through the study visit, the IHEC Board of Commissioners intends to “learn from the Office of the Electoral Commissioner in Mauritius, the best practices, technological innovation, field operation dynamics and stakeholder engagement in the management of elections.”
