New Zealand's new envoy to serve Mauritius through a 'partnership approach'

The new High Commissioner of New Zealand to Mauritius, Dr Emma Rebecca Dunlop-Bennett, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic Prithvirajsing Roopun on Monday.

In a statement after the meeting, Dr Dunlop-Bennett said she will serve Mauritius through a partnership approach: “One where we will be partners of equal standing, aligned to the three principles that underpin New Zealand’s foreign policy,” she was quoted as saying.

On this note, she said that New Zealand’s foreign policy is guided by the values derived from their bicultural heritage, namely: ‘Kotahitanga’, which means going together as one and delivering as one; ‘Manaakitanga’, that is, to look out and care for each other; and ‘Whanaungatanga’, that is, focusing on the partnership and placing people at the heart of diplomacy.
