Bookmaker, political financier resigns from Turf Club ahead of expulsion

Bookmaker Jean-Michel Lee Shim, said to be close to PM Pravind Jugnauth and a leading financier of the MSM ruling party, has submitted his resignation as a founding member of the Mauritius Turf Club (MTC).

Lee Shim said his decision was motivated by the absence of sanctions against horse owner Taslima Valayden. The latter allegedly booed him after the Barbé Cup.

The Mauritius Turf Club had taken the commitment to establish a disciplinary committee but apparently didn’t do it.

Defi Media reported that the resignation came a day after the MTC circulated the agenda for its Annual General Assembly scheduled for 21 October.

It cited Section 9 of the agenda – a motion to expel Lee Shim, Henri Leblanc and Kamal Taposeea as members of the MTC.
