Mauritius SMEs to get funding for use of barcodes
A new agreement will open doors for a financial assistance plan to encourage micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) subscribed to SME Mauritius and the Small Farmers Welfare Fund (SFWF), to obtain barcodes in order to be able to market their products in retail chains.
The agreement was signed between the SFWF and GS1 Mauritius offers, a subsidiary of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) which issues barcodes.
The financial support covers the costs of registration, barcode training and membership when submitting applications to GS1 Mauritius.
Under the Barcode Registration Scheme, SME Mauritius pays the sum of Rs 16,000 for any member whose turnover does not exceed Rs 2 million, and Rs10,000 for SMEs that generate between Rs2million to Rs10 million.
