Emtel launches 5G home internet with Plug & Play solution

Emtel has launched its 5G network through its Airbox 5G home internet with a simple Plug & Play solution.

Some 40% of the population are said to be currently covered by the network.

Kresh Goomany, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Emtel said total deployment will be completed over the next two to three years.

By then, the mobile network will have already switched to 5G.

Subscription packages vary between Rs1,200 to Rs1,800.

This has been made possible thanks to the strategic investments made on the METISS (MEltingpoT Indianoceanic Submarine System) submarine cable, as well as the upgrading work carried out on the existing base stations and the network connecting them,” said Bashir Currimjee, Chairman of Emtel.

“After being the first mobile company in the southern hemisphere, we have pioneered 3G in Africa, 4G and today 5G at scale, which illustrates our desire to innovate”, said CEO Kresh Goomany.
