Ramgoolam owes Rs7m for medical evacuation, Jugnauth tells Parliament

The costs for the medical evacuation of former PM and Leader of the Labour Party Dr Navin Ramgoolam in September 2021 amount to 156,675 US dollars(Rs 7 million).

And the sum has not being reimbursed yet, PM Pravind Jugnauth told Parliament on Tuesday, July 5, Defi Media reported.

Jugnauth said a request for a loan was made by Labourite Dameshwar Damree and he had retained the services of The Kaluah Holdings Ltd for the rental of the air ambulance.

Ramgoolam, who had caught Covid-19 and was in isolation at the Welkin Clinic, was evacuated to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi on the evening of September 8, 2021.

Damree told l’Express that the party will pay only some Rs5million (costs for the medical evacuation) and not commissions being sought by SBM Bank – which facilitated the transfer.

He added that a payment plan was being discussed with SBM.
