Catholic Church's Cardinal Piat says Mauritius regulator 'failed'

In a fresh affidavit sworn before the Supreme Court, Catholic Church Cardinal Maurice Piat has claimed that the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has failed to follow the procedures set out in Section 29A of the IBA Act.

This came in the wake of a complaint of the Diocese of Port-Louis accusing the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) of having censored extracts of the Bishop’s Christmas message.

Cardinal Piat said the IBA “failed in its duties as a regulator”, adding that the State-owned broadcaster admitted not having shown his entire message “without giving any explanation on the reasons for such an act”.
