Cop suspended over ‘torture videos’ seriously injured in accident

Police Constable Baboo Ekantisingh Purgaus, one of the six police officers suspended for allegedly torturing crime suspects, was seriously injured in an accident during the weekend.

According to reports, his motorbike hit a truck which was stationary at Riche Terre.

The truck driver said the vehicle had broken down and the police officer apparently drove straight into the truck.

The driver was arrested and detained over a provisional charge of involuntary wounds and blows – which his lawyer described as “shocking”.

However, the truck driver was eventually released on bail.

Constable Purgaus, said to have sustained head and lung injuries, is currently admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the SSR National Hospital.
