PM’s lawyer’s son appointed as Chair of Broadcasting Review Panel

Lawyer Jean Gaël Basset has been appointed as the first Chairperson of the Independent Broadcasting Review Panel (IBRP).

This new entity will be called to listen to any challenge to a decision or sanction decided by the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA).

Jean Gaël Basset is the son of Désiré Basset – PM Pravind Jugnauth’s lawyer in the case of Private Prosecution case initiated by Labourite Suren Dayal.

Jean Gaël Basset was also previously an independent director of the Mauritius Turf Club Sports & Leisure Ltd (MTCSL).

His resignation, together with that of another Board member, made the entity become non-compliant with the Companies Act.
