Lawyers take to the streets to protest against 'police actions'

Members of the Bar Association took to the streets of Port-Louis on Friday, May 13 to protest against the “brutality” of the police during the deportation of Slovak
Peter Uricek.

During the incident, their president Yatin Varma was pushed and thrown down while trying to enforce a court order prohibiting the Passport and Immigration Office from deporting his
client.

Lawyers have denounced the incident and claimed the country was dangerously heading towards dictatorship.
