PM's close aide (and director of GIS) resigns

Rudy Veeramundar, who was Pravind Jugnauth’s first press attaché in 2014, has resigned as Director of the Government Information Service (GIS) with one month’s notice.

L’Express newspaper reported that Veeramundar appointment had triggered the “compulsory retirement” of the former Director, Lutchmeeparsad Ramdhun, who is still challenging the move before the Supreme Court.

For the latter, his successor kept undermining the morale of independent and impartial government employees.

On the side of Veeramundar, a former journalist, a change in the composition of the PM’s inner circle and conflicts with the new lieutenants apparently triggered his decision.

Defi Media cited Veeramundar as saying, in his resignation letter, that the department “saw progress and innovations” during his tenue tenure, despite two ‘lockdowns’ and a “cut in the GIS budget.”
