Rs2 tax on petrol generated Rs372million

Questions are being raised on the levy of Rs2 per litre of gasoline and diesel which was been effective since July 1, 2021, particularly after it has been revealed that more than Rs372million had been collected so far.

The money was passed to the State Trading Corporation (STC).

The duration of the levy is increasingly being disputed since Mauritius received vaccines for free from numerous donations – many of which have allegedly passed expiry dates.
