Top CEB executive arrested over controversial contracts

Chavan Dabeedin, the Manager of the Central Electricity Board (CEB), has been arrested by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

He is accused of having received money in exchange of awarding of contracts to the defunct construction firm PAD & Co. Ltd over the CEB scandal.

His arrest comes after that of Shamshir Mukoon, acting director general a few months ago. Several other executives of the CEB have also been quizzed and arrested in the wake of the corruption probe.

Media reports state that Dabeedin was provisionally charged with “public official accepting bribe”.

He has been released by Rose Hill Court after paying Rs 50,000 bail and signing a surety of Rs 150,000.

Dabeedin has rejected the accusations.
