15 more killed of COVID-19 over past week

COVID-19 has claimed 15 more lives this variant in Mauritius.

According to latest figures, 1,456 new cases of contamination were recorded this week, including 333 recorded only on Friday.

From 11-18, February, 2022, 18 patients were admitted to ENT Hospital. Among them, 9 are reportedly on life support. Some 296 people are being treated in regional hospitals.

Defi Media cited a document from the Ministry of Health as stating the Omicron is now the dominant variant in Mauritius.

Out of 49 samples from Mauritius and 3 samples from Rodrigues tested between 8 January 8 to 27 January, 38 were Omicrons and 19 were Deltas.

The Ministry of Health added that, as at 19 February, 442, 389 people had received their booster jab, 59,477 teenagers have been doubly vaccinated, while 73,260 received their first dose of Pfizer vaccine.

Le Mauricien reported that 6 people had died of COVID-19 in Rodrigues as at Friday.
