PM Pravind Jugnauth has pledged to accelerate efforts to steer development projects despite the challenges posed by COVID-19.

And he will not intimidated by demagogues.

Speaking at and after a ceremony to hand over keys of social housing units to fifteen families in Dagotière on Thursday, Jugnauth also blasted the media for not extensively covering the State-sponsored Chagos trip.

Jugnauth’s rebuttal comes at a time when his government is under growing fire from the opposition, independent media and the civil society over a cascade of questionable decisions and debacles.

He stated he will not being disturbed by “criticisms from demagogues” and will pursue his plans.

These encompass key infrastructural projects, include the social housing.

The one in Dagotière cost $45-million project – it was supported by the Government of India through a donation of $20 million and a line of credit of $25 million.

Jugnauth announced that the construction of 10,500 units is expected to be completed by June 2024 (year of the next general elections).

He added that Rs 525 million have been disbursed for the maintenance of NHDC social housing units since 2015.

He recalled that various social housing schemes have been extended to the most vulnerable citizens, including Hardship Cases, such as the wavering of deposit.

He also indicated that since November 2019, some 1,900 social housing units have been delivered.
