Tropical depression intensifies, but not a direct threat

Tropical depression has intensified into a moderate tropical depression and has been named ‘Dumako’ by Mauritius Meteorological services.

On Monday at 11.30am , Dumako was centered around the points 16.2 degrees South in latitude and 56.1 degrees East in longitude, that is, about 440 km to the North-North-West of Mauritius.

It is moving in a general Westerly direction at about 25 km/h and does not represent a threat for Mauritius, the Met Office said.

However, heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusts of up to 50km/hr should be expected in some areas, particularly over the Eastern half and the high grounds.

Sea will be rough beyond the reefs in the north with swells of up to  2 metres 50.

The maximum temperature will vary between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius over the highgrounds and between 28 and 31 degrees Celsius along the coasts.

The Met Office expects the weather to gradually improve on 15 February.
