Jenny Adebiro slams door on the MMM

MMM defeated candidate at the 2019 general elections, Jenny Adebiro, has slammed door on her party.

According to reports, the running mate of party leader Paul Berenger in constituency No.19 (Stanley/Rose-Hill), resigned abruptly on Thursday from the politburo, the central committee and as President of the MMM’s women’s commission.

“Ethics no longer matter to the party and it no longer plays its role in politics as before,” Adebiro told Berenger in a letter that was reproduced by several media.

The resignation comes only after the recount of ballot papers in her constituency – which confirmed her close defeat against ex-Deputy Prime Minister Ivan Collendavelloo despite a bunch of irregularities currently subject of a police investigation.

“Since the last general election, I have been facing much difficulties with the party. In my opinion, it is high time for me to move away,” she said in her resignation letter.

The move is said to have sent shockwaves among MMM stalwarts, many claiming she had praised the “MMM’s values” only a few days ago.

Reactions:

Ajay Gunness, Deputy leader of MMM:

“It’s ingratitude towards the party. On 6 February, she praised the MMM’s values in an interview to a weekly newspaper. She resigned on 10 February. Something fishy must have happened during these four days. Only she knows what happened…” Ajay Guness told Radio Plus.

Gunness said he is “saddened” because the MMM has “done a lot” for Jenny Adebiro.

The MMM deputy leader added he would not be surprised if Jenny Adebiro joined another party.

Bobby Hureeram, Minister of National Infrastructure:

“We’ll welcome everyone of goodwill,” he told Radio Plus, noting that Adebiro had been left on her own during the recount exercise. He was referring to politicians from other parties who just joined the MMM.

“This resignation is proof of the opposition that is shattered,” he claimed.
