SMEs bag Rs12.8billion as credit facilities

Small and Medium Enterprises have received Rs12.8billion in terms of credit facilities over the last 10 years (from 31 December 2011 to 31 December 2021), according to latest data from the Bank of Mauritius.

The Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) was the biggest lender (it disbursed Rs5.9 billion), followed by the State Bank of Mauritius (SBM) – with Rs2.54 billion disbursed.

The third biggest lender was Absa Bank (Rs1.16 billion disbursed), followed by Maubank (Rs1.13 billion disbursed).

In total, Rs 5.6 billion were disbursed as loans, Rs 4.5 billion as overdrafts, Rs 1.1 billion as finance leases.

Some 8,578 applications were received, out of which 312 requests were rejected.
