A Mauritius-born pianist who lives in Carlisle (North-West England) has taken social media by storm, and is gearing up to play a concert at one of Britain’s major cathedrals.

Rahul Suntah started posting videos of his piano pperformances on Instagram playing and has racked up almost 28,000 Instagram followers in the process.

According to ITV, he has now been invited to play a prestigious concert at Manchester Cathedral, which he told ITV Border he is looking forward to.

He said: “It is actually my first concert in Manchester so yeah I’m pretty excited. There’s going to be a selection of really great talent as well: there will be a couple of soul singers there’ll be saxophonists and a choir – the G Choir; the BBC choir.”

In an interview with ITV, he said has been playing the piano since he was a child, having been inspired by his mum who was also a fan of the instrument.

His first video that went viral on youtube and social media was Rahul playing ‘Despacito’.

Last year, he played Mozart in the snow with gloves on.

“I like to get more creative and more unconventional for sure so I use piano extended techniques. I like to play with the strings, tap the piano and do crazy things with it.”

Rahul, 24, will perform in Manchester on February 11.

Classically trained, Rahul started learning the piano at the age of 8, studying ABRSM Piano and Music Theory at the Frederic Chopin Conservatory of Music in Mauritius.

Fascinated by composition and the technical craft of sound and music production, Rahul decided to pursue his university studies in Audio & Music Technology at the University of the West of England, Bristol, graduating in 2019.

Since then he has attracted over 40,000 followers online and garnered over a million total views on YouTube after posting breathtaking piano covers of popular hits and releasing his debut EP ‘Piano Stories’ alongside winning the UWE Bristol Talent Show and being featured on popular platforms such as Music Crowns, The Music Man, BBC, Right This Minute and Pianist Magazine.

Passionate about film music and cinematography, Rahul has just finished a masters in Film Scoring on scholarship at the University of Bristol.
